2) INTRODUCTION

I'm Darren May, the electrician behind MAYTRICS LIMITED. We carry out electrical work in Ash Vale including consumer unit upgrades, fuse board replacements, EV chargers, fault finding, EICR testing, downlights, extractor fans, kitchen electrics, bathroom electrics and general domestic electrical maintenance.

A recent project in Ash Vale involved electrical alterations as part of a bathroom renovation. The existing lighting layout was reconfigured to provide a more practical arrangement of LED downlights, and a new electrical supply was installed for an illuminated LED mirror cabinet chosen by the homeowner.

During the inspection, we found that the existing consumer unit did not provide RCD protection to the upstairs lighting circuit. The customer was not in a position to replace the consumer unit at that time, so we discussed the options and installed an RCD fused connection unit at the consumer unit to provide the additional protection required for the new work. The installation was then tested and a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate was issued.

3) WHAT WE DO IN ASH VALE

We cover a wide range of domestic electrical services in Ash Vale, including consumer unit upgrades, consumer unit/fuse board replacements, electric vehicle chargers, electrical alterations, additional sockets, additional lights, new circuits, EICR testing and certification, new sockets, new lights, garden lighting, garden rooms, outside sockets, garage electrics, kitchen electrics, bathroom electrics and general electrical maintenance.

Some jobs are straightforward, such as replacing a socket, changing a light switch or installing a new light fitting. Other jobs require more investigation, especially where existing wiring, RCD protection, earthing, bonding or circuit capacity need to be checked first.

4) WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU BOOK

The easiest way to contact us is through the website enquiry form. You can describe the work and attach photos or videos, which is often very helpful.

We then review the enquiry and, where needed, contact you to discuss the work in more detail. In many cases, we can provide advice or a budget estimate without visiting first.

For larger jobs, or where further investigation is needed, we arrange a site visit. After that, we provide either a pre-visit estimate or a detailed quotation based on what is required.

If you are happy to proceed, we agree a date, order any materials needed and complete the work in accordance with the quotation or estimate. Where required, the work is tested, certified and explained before we leave.

5) WHAT OTHERS GET WRONG

One of the most common mistakes I see is DIY electrical work carried out after watching online videos or following basic guides.

Replacing a light fitting or socket may look simple, but it is not always just a case of matching colours. I have attended properties where connections have not been tightened correctly, lighting circuits have been wired incorrectly, or accessories have been replaced without any testing afterwards.

Electrical work is not just about getting something to work. It needs to be safe and comply with BS 7671.

6) MATERIALS AND BRANDS WE USE

We do not believe in fitting the cheapest products available simply to reduce costs. We choose products that offer a good balance between quality, reliability, appearance and long-term value.

For EV charger installations, we regularly recommend the Ohme Home Pro and Ohme ePod. They are competitively priced, offer smart charging features and have a modern design that suits most properties.

For consumer units, we commonly install the Scolmore Click Elucian range. These provide a smart professional finish and good availability of replacement parts.

For sockets, switches and wiring accessories, we often use the Click range. They provide a clean, slimline appearance and offer a good balance between budget and premium products.

We are also happy to install customer-supplied accessories where appropriate, provided they are suitable for the installation and comply with current regulations.

7) PRICING

Our standard minimum charge is £138 including VAT, which covers up to the first hour on site. Additional time is charged accordingly, and any materials required are charged in addition.

Some jobs can be offered as a fixed price. Other work, especially fault finding or investigation work, may be carried out on an hourly basis.

For larger jobs, we may offer a day rate where this is more cost-effective for the customer. This usually covers up to 6 or 7 hours, depending on location and the type of work involved.
